When birds sing

love songs we salivate

When birds sing

about love who are we

not to walk through fire

and dance on the embers

When birds sing about love

the wind whistles tunes

that straighten the spine

When birds sing

about love the air creates

room for understanding

the message in the sparkling smile

of the jubilating sun

Who knows?

the moon might pop

out of the clingy clouds

the melody of tweets

and twitters wakes memory

from slumber

the piercing sounds of birds

belting out hallelujahs

of freedom from anxiety

of isolation

When birds sing of love

they do it without

the guidance

of a conductor

It is within them to adorn

early mornings

and late afternoons

with rapid conversational notes

that segue

into the vibrations

of our heartbeats

Arresting melodies

reach out for the orange hue

of the setting sun

Songs of jubilation

and expectation

delivered in radical rhythms

of liberated laughter

the generous roar of the ocean

the beat of drums rolling

carrying messages

of future beats that carry

dreams that feature colours

of the present

that will soon be consigned

to the trashcan of an inglorious past.
