These chirruping birds, this slight wind
and these sparse clouds are our companions.
They nourish us with priceless insight
in the spaces between jazz, blues and silence.
The space between the sonic booms we make
when there is something bustling in us
and the mute emptiness out there.
The intervals when hope, faith and light
signal their permanence,
congenial pauses between news
of cyclones, evacuations and killings
fractured vows, meltdowns, flare ups
pathetic governance, social tumult
and all other things that make us squirm.
These chirping birds
this reassuringly present sky are parts
of the intricate distillery
that secretes our love and joy
